The Department of Geography held the Certificate Awarding Ceremony for the 1st intake of the "Geo-informatics for Government Officers" workshop. This event marked a pivotal moment in recognizing the achievements of 25 dedicated government officers who successfully completed the program.
The ceremony, graced by esteemed dignitaries, was headed by Prof. M.M. Gunathilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Alongside him were Chair Professor Mervin Lal Dharmasiri, Head of the Department of Geography, and other notable figures including Prof. A.G. Amarasinghe and Prof. Nishan Sakalasooriya, Program Coordinator. Additionally, representatives from the North Western Province, including Mr. Ranjith Ariyarathne, Chief Secretary, Mr. H.N.B. Abeywardhane, Additional Secretary, and Mr. M.M. Sarath Premachandra, Investigation Officer and GIS Project Coordinator, were also in attendance.
The workshop itself aimed to equip government officers with essential skills in Geo-informatics, enabling them to harness the power of geospatial technology for various applications. Through hands-on training and theoretical sessions, participants gained insights into data handling, mapping techniques, and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in government operations.
