Learning outcome : By the end of this course unit the students will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  1. Understand the nature and use of various types of reference

sources both printed and electronic

  1. Ability to organize the reference process of a library

  2. Indexing and abstracting techniques

  3. Conducting literature search

  4. Techniques of SDI and CAS


Course content :

Conceptual understanding a reference material. Introduction to reference services. Reference sources, printed and electronic; Types. Evaluation of reference sources. Types of reference services. Information services and techniques. Indexing, abstracting, translation and reprographic services. CAS, SDI


Method of Teaching and Learning : Lectures, Practical sessions and Presentations

Assessment : Written examination, assignments, practical tests and presentations
