Aims and Objectives

Learning Outcomes



The aim of this module is to provide students with knowledge and skills in conducting sport and recreation related events.

At the completion of the course, the students will be able to demonstrate knowledge in:

  1. selected concepts and techniques utlised in sport and recreation event management
  2. event conceptualization in sport and recreation event planning
  3. models and interpret policies adopted in  sport and recreation events and
  4. major operational areas of sport and recreation events and ability to conduct events within stipulated time line.

Course Contents


Study of history and development of Sport and Recreation events in the world,

Traditional sports and recreation events in Sri Lanka,

Conceptualizing sport events, event planning strategy, event administration, event coordination and operational functions,

Sport and Recreation event assessment and evaluation and

Social, economical cultural and political impacts on sport and recreation events.
