National Research Conference on Applied Social Statistics 2018

“NRCASS” is conducting in 2018 for the 4th consecutive time by the Social Statistics’ Students Association under the patronage of Dr. K.M.L.M. Manjula Gunarathna, Head of the Department of Social Statistics with the objectives of promoting academic writing and academic presenting among young researchers in all universities in Sri Lanka and provide an experience of a conference and a national level platform to researchers to present their research work, to enhance the soft skills such as communication skills, problem solving skills, team work dynamics, entrepreneurship skills and leadership skills of undergraduates in the department through organizing this event. The theme of this conference is “Quantitative Research in Social Sciences Perspective” and the conference published an abstract volume with the sub themes of Economic and Economic Development, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development, Demography and Population Studies, Mass Communication and Information Management, Management Studies, Social Statistics and Social Sciences as well as Tourism and Trade. The Department of Social Statistics is also publishing the volume 5 Issue 1 of Journal of Social Statistics-2018 and its e-journal at the event.

 

This conference was held on 30th November 2018 with the participation of Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice Chancellor of University of Kelaniya as the Chief Guest. The Keynote speaker of NRCASS-2018 is Dr. A.J. Satharasinghe, Former Director General of Department of Census and Statistics, Sri Lanka. Furthermore, Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. A.H.M.H. Abeyrathne, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. N.P. Sunil-Chandra, Chairman of the Research Council in University of Kelaniya, Dr. M.G. Kularathne, Director of Research Centre for Faculty of Social Sciences and the academic staff of the university were represented for this event. Around 200 researchers from University of Kelaniya as well as from other universities in Sri Lanka were participated for this conference.
