The Department of Sociology of the University of Kelaniya celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. In commemoration of the anniversary celebrations, the ceremonial event named “Samājābhinandatī” was held on the 10th of December 2021 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Concurrently, the 30th Anniversary Special Issue ‘Inspirational Stories’ and the "Samaja Sangathika" academic journal were launched in the event.
The history, current movement, and social service by the Department of Sociology were mentioned by the speakers at the event.
It is also announced that the upcoming research symposium of the department will be held in February 2022 in parallel with the anniversary.
Prof. M. M. Gunathilaka, Dean- Faculty of Social Sciences, and Honorary Prof. Herath Madanabandara graced the occasion as the Chief Guests. Senior Lecturer Dr. D. M. Ubesekara Dissanayake, Head- Department of Sociology, Cadre Chair and Senior Prof. K. Karunathilake, Prof. K. M. Geethani Amarathunga, Prof. Wasantha Subasinghe, and other academic staff members participated in this event. Students and the Alumni of the Department of Sociology attended the event via Zoom.
