Senior Lecturer Thusitha Chamara assumed duties as the very first Head of the Department of Information Technology of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Kelaniya on the 1st of June 2022.

Senior Lecturer Thusitha Chamara is an academic in the field of Information technology. He has completed a Bachelor of Science (Special degree) in Statistics & Computer Science and Master of Social Sciences (MSSc.) degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Kelaniya and is currently reading a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Information Systems at the School of Information Management (SIM), Victoria University of Wellington (VUW), New Zealand. His research interests include Digital Literacy, Digital Information Literacy, Information Technology and Information Systems.

Prior to assuming duties as the Head of the Department of Information Technology, he has held several prominent positions including coordinator in numerous IT-related projects, committee member of the Computer Committee and the Kelaniya University Teacher’s Association, member of the Sports Advisory board and Web Master. He also has extended his active contribution to a number of conferences as the chairperson, Secretory and Coordinator on numerous occasions
