Course Overview

The purpose of this course is developing an overall understanding of advanced database technologies.


Course Content

 

Advanced Features of SQL:

Relational algebra review and join commands, additional join operations, SELF join, FULL joins, Set-Theoretic operators, the HAVING clause, views;

Database System Architectures:

Centralized and Client-Server systems, parallel databases, distributed databases, heterogeneous and homogeneous databases, distributed query processing;

No-SQL Databases:

Motivations for Not Just/No SQL (NoSQL) databases, variety of NoSQL databases, introduction to Key-Value databases, Key-Value database;

Data Warehousing:

Introduction Data Warehousing, Data Warehouse design techniques, Extract-Transform-Load (ETL), Data Cubes, and Data Marts.
