The Department of Sociology at the University of Kelaniya organized a one-day workshop on "National Physical Planning Policy and Plan 2048" on March 01, 2024, at the Faculty Auditorium. The workshop aimed to provide valuable insights into the National Physical Plan of Sri Lanka, focusing on the course unit "Development Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation."
The event featured a distinguished guest speaker, Mr. Gamini Hewage, the Director General of the National Physical Planning Department, Ministry of Urban Development and Housing. Mr. Hewage delivered a comprehensive presentation on the importance of the national physical plan in the development and planning of Sri Lanka. He highlighted the crucial role of effective planning in sustainable development and emphasized the need for collaboration between various stakeholders to achieve the goals outlined in the plan.
The workshop was attended by the Head of the Department of Sociology, Professor Ubesekara Dissanayake, and Senior Professor K. Karunathilake, along with staff members and undergraduate students from the department. The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions on development planning, allowing participants to exchange ideas and insights on the subject.
