The Geography Department celebrated the Sinhala Aluth Avurudu with a traditional food table, drawing together faculty, non-academic staff. Held at K1 111 Hall on 18 April 2024, the event was organized by the department's staff and led by Senior Professor (Chair) Lal Mervin Dharmasiri, head of the department. The celebration captured the spirit of the Sinhala New Year, providing a warm and welcoming environment for all attendees.
Department staff members such as Prof. A.G. Amarasinghe, Prof. Nishan Sakalasooriya, Senior Lecturer Sujani Rathnasekara, and Senior Lecturer Sampath Arunashantha and all other junior and permanent staff members joined in the celebrations, while special guests like Prof. M.M. Gunathilake, the dean of the faculty, and Prof. Semasinghe, the head of the Economics Department, took part in the opening ceremony. The table remained open to all academic and non-academic members throughout the day, creating an atmosphere of unity and camaraderie. Overall, the event was a resounding success, reinforcing the strong sense of community within the Geography Department.
