Geography is offered as a subject for the Master's degree and the Master of Social Sciences degree with coursework and research components offered by the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya. The Department of Geography has organized these courses to guide postgraduate candidates who wish to acquire advanced knowledge in the subject of Geography. The overall objective of this course is to guide the modern development trends of the subject of Geography, the growth of the subject branches and the support that can be provided by the subject of Geography to encourage various research studies in the field of Social Sciences.
In a postgraduate course, it is specifically expected that the candidate will develop knowledge, skills and attitudes about the subject area. Accordingly, we expect to guide all candidates to do so rather than just deliver lectures to master the subject of Geography. It is essential to pay more attention to assignments, independent studies, field observations and surveys, seminars, group discussions and library use. Accordingly, students will be able to find solutions to various problems arising in the present and future world from a geographical perspective.
At the end of the course, it is expected that each student will have developed a broad and deep understanding of the subject of Geography and the ability to independently organize a geographical research. Each candidate will receive the support of lecturers with long-term experience in the branches of the subject, research areas, etc.
