A one-day field excursion for the Geography and Development Studies Hons 3rd Year undergraduates who take Urban Planning and Development subject was conducted by the Department of Geography, University of Kelaniya. It was successfully held on August 24, 2023.

The field visit was completed with the participation of 78 students who follow the course. The field visit mainly focused on inculcating the practical knowledge and application of urban planning strategies aligning them with the concepts and theories learned in the classroom. Students participated in the panel discussion held with the contribution of Mawanella Divisional Secretariat and Urban Development Authority.  Also, a field survey was conducted regarding the construction of Kegalle city and its alternative road(bypass). 

The team was headed by the principal lecturer of the subject, Snr. Lec. Mrs. Sujani Rathnasekara, under the supervision of Senior Professor, Chair Lal Marvin Dharmasiri, Head of the Department of Geography.
