In a solemn yet celebratory ceremony held at the Faculty Auditorium of Social Sciences, the Department of Geography at the University of Kelaniya hosted the Diploma Awarding Ceremony for students who successfully completed the Diploma in Disaster Management and Diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) on December 31, 2023.
The event, headed over by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor M.M. Gunathilaka, and the chair, Senior Professor R.K.L.M. Dharmasiri, Head of the Geography Department. This ceremony showcased the culmination of hard work and dedication by more than 50 students who undertook the challenging diploma programs.
The ceremony was attended by all staff members of the Geography Department, who commended the students for their academic excellence and commitment to the field.
The Diploma in Disaster Management and GIS equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to address critical issues related to disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, as well as the application of GIS in spatial analysis and decision-making.
