University of Kelaniya and University of Bradford are collaborating on modifying a curriculum in the Development Studies Degree Program.

Professor Vishanth Weerakkody, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Bradford University, UK visited the Department of Geography at the University of Kelaniya on 14th March 2025 for a collaborative discussion on curriculum development. The session held in person and virtually, brought together academic staff from the Department of Geography at University of Kelaniya and the Department of Peace Studies and International Development at Bradford University. The discussion aimed to seek assistance with curriculum development for the Development Studies Degree Program offered by the University of Kelaniya.

Professor Lal Mervin Dharmasiri, Head of the Department of Geography and Professor Vishanth Weerakkody, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Bradford University chaired the event.

Prominent academics from both institutions participated, including Professor A.G. Amarasinghe and Professor Nishan Sakalasooriya from the University of Kelaniya, as well as Dr. Prathivadi Anand, Dr. Rhys Kelly and Dr. Colins Imoh from the Department of Peace Studies and International Development at Bradford University who joined virtually.

This collaboration represents a significant step towards strengthening educational partnerships and enhancing the Development Studies curriculum with international expertise, ensuring students receive a comprehensive and globally relevant education.
