Alpha 2023 Alpha 2023- talent show organized by Social Statistics Students’ Association was held on 8th February 2023 at Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya Successfully. The Chief Guest of the event was Senior Professor Patrick Ratnayake, director of the Art Council, University of Kelaniya. Professor M.M Gunatilaka, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya elegance as the guests of honor. The program’s main focus is to increase cooperation between Social Statistics undergraduates and reduce the academic-related stress of the undergratuates in the department. Moreover, the progrmme intends to provide a platform to Social Statistics undergraduates to showcase their aesthetic skills.

National Research Conference on Applied Social Statistics (NRCASS) 2021 The 7th National Research Conference on Applied Social Statistics (NRCASS) 2021 organized by the Department of Social Statistics was held on 21st November 2022 as a virtual conference. The theme of the conference was “Quantitative Research on Sustainable Development” this year. The keynote speaker of the conference was Vidyajyothi Professor Janaka de Silva, Chair and Senior Professor of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya was the chief guest and Professor M.M Gunatilake, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences was invited as the guest of honor of the inauguration ceremony. Chanya Peiris was awarded as the best presenter of the conference. The conference intends to provide a platform for young researchers to publish their new research findings and innovations and to enhance their presentation skills as well.

Phronesis Mind Inter-Departmental and Inter-School Quiz Competition 2021 PHRONESIS MIND Inter-Departmental and Inter-School Quiz Competition 2021 organized by the Department of Social Statistics was conducted through the virtual platform for this year. This quiz competition is organized for all the undergraduates of the University of Kelaniya and Advanced level Students studying Business Statistics all over the country. The Inter-Departmental quiz competition 2021 was held on 5th February 2022 with the participation of eight departments of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The championship was won by the Department of Geography. The Department of Sociology was the first runner-up and the Department of Geography was the second runner-up of the competition. The best performer of the competition was Y.L.M Isuru Udakara from the Department of Geography. . The Inter-School quiz competition 2021 was held on 14th of October 2022 with the participation of fourteen schools all over the country. The championship was won by Nalanda College, Colombo. Ananda College, Colombo was the first runner and the Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo was the second runner-up in the competition. Dulana Kalindu from Ananda College, Colombo, and T.D Dilsha Mansara Wickrama from Nalanda College, Colombo were the best performers in the competition. The main objective of this program is to enhance the undergraduates’ and A/L students’ general knowledge of society, culture & economy and amplify the skills of solving IQ questions which will be beneficial for competitive examinations and enhance the awareness of the importance of studying statistics as a subject among A/L students.
