Message from the Head of the Department
Welcome to the Department of Sociology of the University of Kelaniya. The Department of Sociology has a 30 year long history and is a dynamic and fully-fledged department in the university. The subject of Sociology was initially offered for the BA degree programme by the Department of Economics in the early eighties and the Department of Sociology was first established as a new academic Department in the year 1991. Currently, the Department of Sociology is offering both internal and external degree programmes for undergraduates. The Department of Sociology is the largest academic department in the Faculty of Social Sciences in terms of the number of students registered for both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
