The inauguration ceremony of Diploma in Sport Management offered by the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 19th of January 2020 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The ceremony was held with the objective of introducing the course units and the academic staff to newly enrolled students. The keynote speech of the ceremony was delivered by Emeritus Prof. Chandrasiri Rajapaksha, a communication expert and a compiler of theories, concept and applications of communication as the chief guest of the event while, Prof. M.M. Gunathilake, Dean- Faculty of Social Sciences participated as an honorable guest. Moreover, Prof. H.M. Nawarathna Banda, Head- Department of Economics and Senior Lecturer Dr. D.M. Ubesekara Dissanayake, Head- Department of Sociology, Senior Lecturer Jayantha Kalansooriya, Head- Department of Sport Science and Physical Education, Senior Lecturer M.K.A. Anoma Rathnayaka, Coordinator- Diploma in Sport Management also attended in the event. The Department of Sport Science and Physical Education of the University of Kelaniya is the first to implement a Diploma in Sport Management in Sri Lanka. Further, the program delivers up-to-date knowledge by obtaining the engagement of experts and well-qualified educators in the field to help the students to reach their full potential. The academic staff members of the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education along with students took part in the event.
