Senior Lecturer Mr. Jayantha Kalansooriya was assigned as the new Head of the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education. The appointment letter was handed over to Mr. Jayantha Kalansooriya by the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe on the 19th of November 2018 at the Office of the Vice- Chancellor. Present at the occasion were Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor and Ms. Dhammika Ambegoda, Assistant Registrar- Academic Establishment Division.

Mr. Jayantha Kalansooriya has obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kelaniya and has followed the Postgraduate Diploma in International Affairs from BCIS.

He has obtained his MA in Japanese Studies from the University of Colombo and M. Com from the University of Kelaniya. He is currently reading for his PhD at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Mr. Kalansooriya has conducted research studies in the fields of Sustainability of Open Spaces, Recreation Studies and Japanese Management and has published many articles in nationally and internationally recognized journals and has authored several research books.

He has served as the senior treasurer of the Nature Club and Sport and Recreation Management Student Union of the University of Kelaniya. He also received the VC Award in 2015 and several Senate Awards for the best researcher in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
