Background of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Humanities

With the establishment of Vidyalankara University in the year 1959, the Faculty of Arts was established, and it was split into two Faculties as the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities in the year 1981/1982. Since then, these two faculties have maintained a close relationship owing to the common roots of origin. The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities offer Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree programmes with a wide variety of subject disciplines. Currently, eighteen subject disciplines are being taught under the 12 academic departments at the Faculty of Social Sciences and thirty-one subject disciplines are being taught under ten academic departments at the Faculty of Humanities.
