The Undergraduate Research Conference of the Faculty of Social Sciences, organized by the Research Centre of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, was held on 11th May 2026. Held under the theme, “Transforming Crisis into Opportunity: Social Sciences Approaches for Rebuilding Sri Lanka,” the inaugural ceremony of the conference was held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The Chief Guest of the event was Senior Professor Nilanthi Renuka De Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, while the keynote address was delivered by Professor Manjula Ranagalage of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. The event was also attended by Prof. Chaminda Abeysinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Prof. Jeewantha Premaratne, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Mr K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar of the University of Kelaniya; and the Heads of Departments of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
More than 200 students presented their final-year research findings at the conference through 28 technical sessions. The abstract volume of the conference was officially launched online by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Chief Editor of the Abstract Volume, Professor J. A. Prasansha Kumari. The closing ceremony was successfully held at the Faculty Auditorium.
