Archives & Special Collections
The Sida/SAREC Research Li-brary's Archives and Special Collections department collects, organiz-es, and preserves the historical record of the University of Kelaniya. Spe-cial Collections are intended to support the curriculum and research needs of facul-ty and staff. Director of Archives and Special Collections selectively col-lects for Archives and Special Collections and considers gifts. Spe-cial Collections are defined as library and archival materials in any format (e.g., rare books, manuscripts, photographs, digital, etc.) that are generally characterized by their artifactu-al or monetary value, physical format, uniqueness or rarity, special content, and/or an institutional commitment to longterm preservation and access. They general-ly are housed in a separate unit with specialized security and user services. Spe-cial collections are usually noncirculating.Our priorities in adding to special collections are Staff currier Continuous Devel-opment support, academic research, and the preservation of UOK history.
Government Documents
As an academic research Library, the Sida/SAREC Research Library offers free, staff access to State government information. The librarian responsible for government documents selectively acquires government publica-tions through the Library Program.
Reference Collection
A selected number of materials, print, are purchased for their value as reference tools.
Teaching Materials Collection
The Library purchases, or acquires by donations, selected copies of textbooks, cur-riculum guides, kits and other materials used for instruction in departments and faulty.
