Course Aims:

Intended Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, students will be able to acquire the following skills and competencies

  • Identify hardware components of a computer system and explain each in brief
  • Describe the landmarks in the history of computers and microprocessor development
  • Express input devices and their categories and explain output devices of a computer system and portray memory and storage devices
  • Handle different computer applications in libraries.

Course Content: (Main topics, Sub topics)

Introduction to computers, history, architecture, Input/Output devices, storage devices; Commercial and Open Source Software; Operating systems; Single and Multi user Systems; Introduction to Windows, Windows NT; Linux; Word Processing applications using Ms-Word ; Spread Sheet applications using Ms-Excel; Presentation using Ms-Power Point; Data Base Management Systems using Ms-Access or open 0ffice
