The Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Alumni Association of Library and Information Science, successfully hosted a National Workshop on "Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Library Professionals" on December 1st and 2nd, 2024.

Led by Dr. P. Venkata Rao, an eminent Knowledge Management expert from the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, India, the workshop brought together over 75 participants, including librarians, scholars, and LIS students. With 26 years of experience, Dr. Rao guided engaging sessions on AI applications in libraries, knowledge management, and practical demonstrations of AI tools for research and information management.

The event was honored by the presence of Carder Chair Senior Professor M.K. Weerasinghe, Senior Professor W.A. Weerasooriya, and the entire department staff. Their participation highlighted the Department’s dedication to advancing library services through cutting-edge technologies.

Participants praised the workshop for its valuable insights, fostering a deeper understanding of how AI can transform the library and information science sector.

National Workshop on "AI for Library Professionals"

The Alumni Association of Library and Information Science is thrilled to announce an upcoming workshop on "AI for Library Professionals" to be held in December 2024(. Recognizing AI as a transformative and essential tool for librarians, we are honored to welcome Dr. P. Venkata Rao, an esteemed scholar in this field, to lead the session.

Dr. Rao currently serves as a Fellow (Knowledge Management) and Lead of the Knowledge Management Centre at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Punjab, Chandigarh, India. With over 26 years of experience in diverse libraries across Chandigarh, Dr. Rao brings a wealth of expertise. He holds both a Master’s degree (1993) and a Doctorate (2009) in Library and Information Science from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and has conducted numerous workshops, both locally and internationally, throughout his academic career.

This workshop promises to offer valuable insights and practical skills for all participants. We look forward to seeing you there!
