Dr. Namali Suraweera as the New Head of the Department of Library and Information Science

Dr. Namali Suraweera assumed duties as the new Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya. The appointment letter was handed over to Dr. Namali Suraweera by Prof. D.M.Semasinghe, Vice-Chancellor of the University on the 17th of September 2018 at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya and the academic staff members of the Department of Library and Information Science also graced the event.

Dr. Namali Suraweera obtained B.A. (Special) degree and Master of Social Sciences (MSSc) degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Kelaniya and Doctor of Philosophy in Information Management from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. She has also served as a lecturer in E-Learning and as a Contact for Academic Technologies (CAT) in Centre for Academic Development (CAD) in Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

She joined the University of Kelaniya in 2007. She has over 15 years of contribution to profession and research. With her PhD study experiences, she has actively involved in the establishment of National E-Learning Centre (NELRC) under the Faculty of Computing and Technology in University of Kelaniya and she was the 1st Director of NELRC.

She has contributed over 30 papers to learned journals and international conferences. Dr. Namali Suraweera provided her service as a member of editorial boards in both national and international journals. She also worked as a reviewer and a session chair of the international and national conferences.

Currently, she acts as a research coordinator of University of Kelaniya for the national research project on “a study on ragging and sexual and gender-based violence in the Sri Lankan university system & implementing / proposing interventions and mechanisms for combating ragging and sexual and gender-based violence in the Sri Lankan university system”, embarked by the UGC and funded by UNICEF.

She also acts as the Coordinator of Diploma in Information Management and Technology offered by the Department of Library and Information Science.
