MoU Signed Between the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education of the University of Kelaniya and the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation (SLTF)

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, and the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation (SLTF)

on the 13th of February 2023 at the Senate Room of the university.

The objective of signing this MoU with the SLTF was to share expert knowledge and resources between the two parties and to promote a healthy lifestyle among the community.

Present at the occasion were Cadre Chair and Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar - University of Kelaniya, Prof. M. M. Gunathilake, Dean - Faculty of Social Sciences, Ms. M. K. A. Anoma Rathnayaka, Head - Department of Sport Science and Physical Education, Mr. Chaminda Punchihewa, Chairman - Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation, and K. A. R. C. S. Alahakoon, Secretary General - Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation, Ms. Deepika Wehigaldeniya, Coordinator of the MoU, and members of the academic staff of the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education.

Book Launching Ceremony and Academic Discussion of the Department of Archaeology

The three academically significant books, Low density urbanism: Archaeology, Transformation and Collapse of Ancient Cities in Sri Lanka,

Sigiriya Monastic Archaeology - New Edition (Sinhala), Archaeology, Architectural Heritage and Socio-economic development in Sri Lanka- New Edition (Sinhala) written by Chair, Senior Prof. Dr. Prishanta Gunawardhana of the Department of Archaeology were launched on the 19th of January 2023, at the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya.

Prof. M. M. Gunathilake, Dean - Faculty of Social Sciences, Emeritus Prof. Jagath Weerasinghe, and Dr. Sirinimal Lakdusinghe, delivered the main speeches of the event. Members of the Academic Staff of the University and Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology and students studying the degree programs of Archaeology, and Tourism and Cultural Resource Management participated in the event.

Certificate Award Ceremony of Three Diploma Programmes offered by the Department of Mass Communication

The distribution of certificates to the students who have successfully completed the Diploma in Mass Communication, Diploma in Public Relations and Media Management, and Higher Diploma in Public Relations

offered by the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 22nd of January at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. A hundred students were awarded certificates in this event, creating opportunities for them to excel in their careers. Prof. M. M. Gunathilake, Dean - of the Faculty of Social Sciences graced the event as the Chief Guest. The keynote speech of the event was delivered by the famous Sri Lankan vocalist Santhush Weeraman. Moreover, Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe, Head - of the Department of Mass Communication, Senior Lecturer Dinithi Jayasekara, course coordinator of the Diploma in Mass Communication, Senior Lecturer Samanthika Priyadarshani, course coordinator of the Diploma in Public Relations and Media Management, Senior Lecturer Darshana Somarathne, course coordinator of the Higher Diploma in Public Relations, and members of the academic staff were also present at the occasion.
