Course Aims:

Intended Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, students will be able to acquire following skills and competencies

  • Distinguish different types of indexing systems
  • Document analysis for indexing
  • Prepare indexes using appropriate indexing systems
  • Design and develop new indexing systems and techniques.

Course Content: (Main topics, Sub topics)

Indexing and theory of indexing, Types of indexes, Indexing systems, Pre and Post coordinate systems, KWIC, KWOC, and Uniterm, Citation indexing, Indexing services, Abstracting, Types and uses of abstract and compilation, Abstracting Services, Introduction to thesaurus.
