A pirith chanting ceremony and almsgiving for the commemoration of the 50^th anniversary of the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 18^th and 19^th of August 2023 respectively at the departmental premises.

It was held with the objective of commemorating and offering blessings for deceased academic, and non-academic staff members, and the alumni of the department and the University. It was also aimed to offer blessings for the department, staff, and students including the alumni members of the Department of Library and Information Science including the University of Kelaniya.

The pirith chanting was organized under the pious patronage of Welamitiyawe Gnanarathana Nayaka Thero. Almsgiving was presided over by Rev. Senior Professor Induragare Dhammarathana Thero who made a very valuable sermon.

The ceremony took place with the participation of monks under the pious patronage of Chief Incumbent of Vidyalankara Maha Pirivena Most Rev. Welamitiyawe Gnanarathana Nayaka Thero, Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar, Dr. C. C. Jayasundara, Librarian, Prof. Gunathilaka, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Senior Prof. M. K. Weerasingha, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Heads of the Departments, members of the department’s alumni association and students.

Certificate awarding ceremony of the Diploma in Library and Information Science was organized by the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences held on 22^nd of December, 2019 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathna, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Kelaniya graced the event as the Chief Guest while, the honorable guests present at the occasion were Prof. M.M. Gunathilake, Dean- Faculty of Social Sciences and Prof. Sumanapala Galmangoda.

The main motive of the event was to award the certificates in Higher Diploma in Library and Information Science and Diploma in Information Management and Technology certificates to the awardees of the occasion.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Namali Suraweeera, Head- Department of Library and Information Science and the academic staff of the department along with the awardees were present at the occasion.
