Ileka Ruwanpathirana, obtained her B.A. honors degree in Mass Communication in 2016 from the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya and started reading for her M.Phil. degree in Film Marketing and Film Public Relations at University of Kelaniya in 2017. In 2019, she joined the academic staff and served the department first as an assistant lecturer, then as a visiting lecturer and today as a probationary lecturer. She has conducted few pioneer research works and has been involved in many collaborative research projects. Her main research interests include newspaper media/ film media/ community filmmaking/ marketing/ film marketing and public relations. She is the author of the book titled ‘Free newspaper business model and Sri Lankan newspaper industry’ published by LAP academic publishing, Germany. She has been involved in journalism from a young age and has many experiences in different fields like newspaper, television, radio, and Local/foreign film productions. She has worked with renowned film directors and production companies in the world. She started her profession in the film industry first as a production assistant and developed her career as a production coordinator, assistant director, production manager, director and executive producer. Documentary films directed by her have been awarded and appreciated in several film festivals locally as well as internationally.
