Dr. Manoj Jinadasa, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Kelaniya, participated in the International Conference on Gender Studies and Sexuality held from 8–10 August in Berlin, Germany.

At the conference, Dr. Jinadasa presented a research paper on the declining enrollment of young men in Sri Lankan national universities. The study was conducted in collaboration with Newcastle University, UK, under a British Academy research grant.

His presentation contributed to global discussions on gender and education, drawing attention to the challenges faced by young men in Sri Lanka’s higher education system. The research also emphasized the need for academic and policy-level interventions to strengthen male student participation in universities.

Dr. Jinadasa highlighted that the conference provided an important platform for international dialogue and collaboration, with potential benefits for Sri Lankan higher education development.

Dr. Manoj Jinadasa, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Kelaniya, participated in the China International Communication Conference 2025, held from 4–8 September in Mainland China.

He presented a research paper on “Sri Lankan Soft Power and Cultural Exchange”, focusing on the role of media, culture, and public diplomacy in strengthening Sri Lanka’s international image. His presentation received strong academic engagement, contributing to global discussions on soft power and communication.

During the conference, Dr. Jinadasa engaged with scholars and professionals from Yunnan University, the China International Communication Association, and other Asian institutes, building networks for future collaborations. These include potential joint research projects, academic exchanges, and student workshops.

His participation enhanced the University of Kelaniya’s visibility in global communication studies, while discussions also opened pathways for developing media labs, digital tools, and collaborative platforms for the Department of Mass Communication.

Dr. Jinadasa noted that the conference laid a strong foundation for long-term collaboration between Sri Lanka and China, enriching both academic development and cultural exchange.

Nisansala Abeygunasekara and Mahesha Piyumali, Assistant Lecturers from our department, attended the 30th Conference of the Asian Media and Information Centre (AMIC 2024) at the Communication University of China. The conference, themed "Asia as a Knowledge Sharing Society and Internationalization of Higher Education," took place from June 24 to 26 in Beijing. Over 300 scholars and communicators from Central and North Asia participated, resulting in the signing of twenty  of understanding for partnerships among universities and professional associations. The AMIC Beijing Declaration on the Internationalization of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) offering Communication and Journalism Programs was adopted.

The conference featured four plenary sessions covering updates on the internationalization of higher education in Asia, best practices in journalism and communication education, commonalities and differences in journalism issues across Asia, and the Bandung Spirit in the era of AI. Additionally, there were eleven parallel sessions and six masterclasses. This year, the AMIC Asia Communication Award was presented to Dr. Cherian George in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the media and communication field.

During the conference, Assistant Lecturer Nisansala Abeygunasekara presented her research on "Health Communication and Functional Health Literacy" while Assistant Lecturer Mahesha Piyumali presented a research paper titled "Link Building Strategies in Digital PR to Enhance Search Engine Optimization in Public Relations Campaigns," 

From 176 research submissions, six speakers were selected, and Assistant Lecturer Mahesha Piyumali was selected as one of the masterclass presenters. She conducted a session for scholars titled "How to Use Link-Building Techniques to Enhance PR Campaign Visibility and Engagement in Digital Environments."
