“Nasty Woman” a short documentary film made by Ileka Ruwanpathirana (Assistant Lecturer, Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya) won the award “Best Editor (Documentary Film) | Category – INTERNATIONAL in 5th Darbhanga International Film Festival, 2018 held in Bihar, India.
Darbhanga IFF (Darbhanga International Film Festival) is the International film festival of Bihar state of India organized every year at Darbhanga city since 2013.
Ileka Ruwanpathirana is an upcoming filmmaker who completed her B.A. degree and started reading for her M-Phil in Film Marketing at University of Kelaniya. She started her profession in film industry first as a production assistant and developed as a production coordinator, assistant director, line producer and director. She is looking forward to explore the film industry by making creative productions.
The film “Nasty Woman” is about a person who fights for her right to be recognized as a female and the film was made as an assignment related to the film media course unit under the Bachelor of Arts special degree in Mass Communication. The film “Nasty woman” got the official selection in many international film festivals in 2018 including “ChalachitramGuwahati Film Festival” and “Out and Loud Pune International queer film festival”. Especially The Assam Tribute Newspaper (5th March 2018) reported the film Nasty woman made a mark in Guwahati Film Festival.
The launch of the research publication “War Reporting and Photo Jounalism” by the Assistant Lecturer, Mr. Gayan Madhushanka of the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 21st of May at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. This is considered a significant contribution to literature related to subject areas of war, war reporting, conflict reporting, photo journalism.
