National Research Conference on Mass Communication

National Research Conference on Mass Communication organized for the first time by the Department of Mass Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 08th of December 2018 at the premises of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The conference was held with the objective of fulfilling the shortage of national research conferences on Mass Communication and improving research skills of the undergraduates. Providing assistance for the development of the country with the new knowledge gained through research was another objective of the conference.

Prof. Chandrasiri Rajapaksha delivered the keynote address of the event emphasizing on the expansion of Mass Communication as a subject with respect to language, literature and culture.
Around 216 research articles themed: Culture & Heritage, Language & Literature, Psychology/Psychology/Counselling, Public Relations & Print Media, Film Studies, Electronic Media, Political Communication, Development Communication, Advertising/ Marketing & Business, New Media & Social Media and Law/ Ethics & Regulation were presented at the conference. An Abstract Volume which contains 119 research articles was also launched at the conference.

The event was held under the patronage of Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor. Present at the occasion were Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathna, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Cadre Chair and Senior Prof. N.P. Sunil- Chandra, Chairman- Research Council, Senior Lecturer Mr. Aruna Lokuliyana, Head- Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Sunanda Mahendra, Senior Lecturer Mr. Dhammika Bandara Herath, Coordinator of the event including the academic staff members of the Department and undergraduates.

This research conference was organized in relation to “Sanjanani 2018”, Communication and Public Relations Festival organized by the Department of Mass Communication.
