Right to Information Commission (RTIC) and the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya Jointly organized a Zoom Seminar on the Implementation of Right to Information Act on 09th of February 2021. The seminar was attended by academic and non-academic staff of university.
Mr. Mahinda Gammanpila, Chairman- RTIC, Ms. Kishali Pinto Jayawardena, Commissioner- RTIC and Mr. S. G Punchihewa, Commissioner- RTIC joined for the discussion after the presentation of RTIC decisions (2017-2019) by Dumindu Madhushan (Attorney-at-Law), Legal Researcher- RTIC.
Information request, appeal process and responsibilities of public authorities in the implementation of the RTI Act were explained by Mr. Piyatissa Ranasinghe- Former Director General of RTIC. It was followed by a Q&A session with commission members and participants moderated by Mr. Wijayananda Rupasinghe, Acting Head- Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya. Final remarks were given by Mr. Vasantha Hapuarachchi- Director General- RTIC.
