The inauguration ceremony of the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Public Relations and Media Management (PRMM) course took place on July 30, 2023, at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya. The event was organized by the Department of Mass Communication to celebrate the commencement of the Postgraduate Diploma in PRMM course and warmly welcome its very first batch of students.
The occasion was graced by Prof. MM Gunatilake, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, who served as the Chief Guest. Additionally, Dr. Nushad Perera, the former Chief Operating Officer of Dialog TV and the Managing Director of Ten Holdings (Sri Lanka, Malaysia) was invited to be the Keynote Speaker. In his enlightening and motivational speech, Dr. Perera emphasized the crucial role of effective communication in expressing ideas creatively across digital platforms.
Among the distinguished attendees were Senior Lecturer Mr. Wijayananda Rupasinghe, the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, and Senior Lecturer Mr. Aruna Lokuliyana, the former Head of the Department of Mass Communication. Also present were Senior Lecturer Dr. AMS Achala Abeykoon, the Coordinator of the PGD course, the lecturers of the Department of Mass Communication, and the enthusiastic candidates of the first PGD course batch.
This event stands as a historical milestone for the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Kelaniya, marking the long-awaited commencement of a postgraduate course in Public Relations and Media Management. The PGD course holds particular significance for professionals in the fields of public relations, media, marketing, and advertising, as it provides them with the opportunity to further their studies and enhance their knowledge and skills.
