Unwrapping the joy of togetherness, the sixth annual Secret Santa event brought together the Academic and Non-Academic staff of the Department of Mass Communication on January 1st, 2024, shared gifts while savoring the warmth of New Year Tea.
The Department of Mass Communication won First place for the Department with the Best Website in 2023 at the -Vice-Chancellor's Awards held on the 1st of January 2024 at the Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya. This award was given to the Department to appreciate its outstanding efforts in elevating the university's brand through its well-crafted website.
The recipient of this esteemed award was the Probationary Lecturer Dasini I Madurasinghe, the current Department Webmaster, who stood as a representative for the Department of Mass Communication. Further, the Department would like to appreciate the dedicated effort given by Senior Lecturer Mangala Pasquel, the former webmaster of the Department, and Temporary Assistant Lecturer Dimuthu Jinasena for his tech-savvy and creative support in upgrading the department website.
Moreover, the Department would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the academic staff members of the Department of Mass Communication for providing valuable resources, content, and articles to be shared through our website.
The Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya, inaugurated the National Media Summit 2023, commemorating 50 years of media education in Sri Lanka with the collaboration of the India Sri Lanka Foundation. The ceremony was held on 14th December at the Social Sciences faculty auditorium.
Notable dignitaries included the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, alongside visiting scholars from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India—Professor Manukonada Rabindranath and Dr. Archana Kumari—who were acknowledged for their valuable contributions. A highlight of the summit was the keynote speech delivered by Emeritus Professor Sunanda Mahendra, emphasizing the evolution of media education in Sri Lanka.
Enriching the event further, lecturers specializing in communication and media from universities nationwide and media professionals attended, representing their respective institutions.
