In accordance with the MOU signed between the Department of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka and School of History and Culture, Sichuan University, China in 2016 and 2017, a series of discussions held with regard to archaeological research pertaining to China - Sri Lanka historical relations. According to that, the first series of the Excavation of Mantai Collaborative Archaeological Research Project was started on 21st November and it continued for a month. (from 21st Nov to 18th Dec, 2019) at Mantai Ancient Port Site. The Archaeological Research Project was successed under the supervision of Dr. Mangala Katugampola, Head/Department of Archaeology. University of Kelaniya, Sichuan University and the Department of Archaeology of Sri Lanka collaborated to success the project at high level. It gave an opportunity for Undergraduates who are doing special degree in Archaeology of Department of Archaeology to attend to this China – Sri Lanka Collaborative Archaeological Research Excavation
