“Prof. Shelton Gunaratne Merit Scholarship” is awarded to the students who score the highest marks in BA (Hons) in Mass Communication and BA (Hons) in Public Relations and Media Management degree courses on 13th of January 2022 at Board Room of Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya.

It was officially awarded to 06 students among 18 students who were selected for the academic year 2017/2018 by Prof. M.M. Gunathilake, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of University of Kelaniya. The Coordinator of the Prof. Shelton Gunaratne Merit Scholarship Awards Senior Lecturer Dinithi Jayasekara, Department of Mass Communication, and Senior Lecturer Aruna Lokuliyana, Head of the Department of Mass Communication also participated in this event.

An amount of 5000 rupees was awarded to 18 students each for the 2017/2018 academic year during the event.

ජනසන්නිවේදන අධ්‍යයන අංශයේ ඩිප්ලෝමා පාඨමාලා ආරම්භ කෙරේ.

ජනසන්නිවේදන අධ්‍යයන අංශයේ 2021 වර්ෂයට අදාළ ජනසන්නිවේදන ඩිප්ලෝමා  පාඨමාලාව,  මහජන සම්බන්ධතා හා මාධ්‍ය කළමනාකරණ ඩිප්ලෝමා  පාඨමාලාව සහ සන්නිවේදන හා මහජන සම්බන්ධතා උසස් ඩිප්ලෝමා  පාඨමාලාව යන පාඨමාලා  ත්‍රිත්වයේ  සමාරම්භක උත්සවය   2021 මාර්තු මස 14 වැනි දින පෙ.ව. 9.00 ට මාර්ගගත ක්‍රමයට  පැවැත්විණ. පිළිගැනීමේ කතාව සහ අරමුණ පැහැදිලි කිරීම අධ්‍යයනාංශයේ වැඩ බලන අංශාධිපති ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ කථිකාචාර්ය විජයානන්ද රූපසිංහ මහතා විසින් සිදු කළ  අතර මුඛ්‍ය දේශනය නියෝජ්‍ය පොලිස්පති මාධ්‍ය ප්‍රකාශක අජිත් රෝහණ මහතා විසින් සිදු කරන ලදී.

Inaugural Ceremony of Diploma Courses of Department of Mass Communication

The Inaugural Ceremony for 2021 intake of Diploma in Mass Communication, Diploma in Public Relations and Media Management, and Higher Diploma in Communication and Public Relations offered by the Department of Mass Communication was held on the 14th March 2021 from 9.00 a.m. via Zoom. The welcome speech was delivered by Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe,  the Acting Head, Department of Mass Communication, and the keynote speech was delivered by DIG Ajith Rohana, Police Spokesman. Right to Information Commission (RTIC) and the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya Jointly organized a Zoom Seminar on the Implementation of Right to Information Act on 09th of February 2021. The seminar was attended by academic and non-academic staff of university.

Mr. Mahinda Gammanpila, Chairman- RTIC, Ms. Kishali Pinto Jayawardena, Commissioner- RTIC and Mr. S. G Punchihewa, Commissioner- RTIC joined for the discussion after the presentation of RTIC decisions (2017-2019) by Dumindu Madhushan (Attorney-at-Law), Legal Researcher- RTIC.

Information request, appeal process and responsibilities of public authorities in the implementation of the RTI Act were explained by Mr. Piyatissa Ranasinghe- Former Director General of RTIC. It was followed by a Q&A session with commission members and participants moderated by Mr. Wijayananda Rupasinghe, Acting Head- Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya. Final remarks were given by Mr. Vasantha Hapuarachchi- Director General- RTIC.
