The Annual General Meeting of the Students' Association of Public Relations and Media Management (PRMM), Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya was held on the 24th of August, 2023. The event was held in the Kakulawala Hall at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya.
Senior Lecturer Wijayanada Rupasinghe, the Head of the Department, Senior Lecturer Dr. Achala Abeykon, the PRMM subject Coordinator, and the department lecturers, attended the general meeting.
The fresh office bearers were appointed as the officials of the association by the PRMM undergraduates. The outgoing officials were appreciated for their dedicated service, with a heartfelt acknowledgment of their contributions to the success of the association during last year.
The baton is now passed to the new torchbearers to continue the journey of the association brimming with innovation, growth, and meaningful endeavors. The best wishes of the Department are with them.
In a spirited celebration of camaraderie and nostalgia, Public Relations and Media Management Honors 3rd-year students of the Department of Mass Communication orchestrated a scintillating "Khush Night" Welcome and Farewell party on August 11, 2023. The event, held at the elegant K 27 hall, brought together students and esteemed lecturers alike for an evening of jubilation.
Draped in an air of both welcome and farewell sentiments, the event showcased the prowess of the Public Relations and Media Management Honors students in orchestrating a vibrant evening. The atmosphere was charged with laughter, dance, and shared memories as the attendees reveled in the festivities.
The "Khush Night" not only commemorated the beginning of a new academic year but also bid adieu to departing seniors, making it an emotional yet joyful occasion. The event underscored the sense of unity and creativity that defines the Department of Mass Communication, leaving indelible memories for all who participated.
As the curtains fell on this remarkable evening, it was evident that the "Khush Night" would linger as a cherished memory in the hearts of the students and lecturers, fostering bonds that transcend time and distance.

Senior Lecturer Wijayanada Rupasinghe, the Head of the Department, Senior Lecturer Amali Uthpala Nandasiri, the Mass Communication Subject Coordinator and Senior Treasurer of Students' Association of Mass Communication, along with all esteemed Academic Staff of the Department. The event garnered the presence of current students affiliated with the Association.

The Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya hosted the screening of the film, “Gaadi (Children of the Sun)” directed by Mr. Prasanna Vithanage, on 2nd of August 2023. The screening happened at the Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya, at 5.30 pm. It has been organized as a part of the Sanjanani media festival, which is the biggest annual media festival in the university.
The director, Mr. Prasanna Vithanage, was present at the event and addressed the audience before the screening. Further, Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe (Head of the Mass Communication Department) and other staff members attended the event. Notably, the event was a huge success attending more than a thousand five hundred spectators.
A workshop organized by the Public Relations and Media Management Students' Association of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya, was held on 16th May 2023 at the Social Sciences Faculty Auditorium. This workshop was organized to provide insight into the Public Relations industry in Sri Lanka and to create an opportunity for undergraduates who follow the PRMM degree program to meet experts from the industry to obtain knowledge and experience on the requirements of a Public Relations Officer in a PR agency.
Mr. Mushthak Ahamed, Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Thilani Weerarathne, the Assistant Manager from HardTalk Pvt Ltd, Ms. Amali Fernando, Account Director, and Mr. Hasitha Perera, Senior Account Manager from Ogilvy PR, Sri Lanka, were invited as guest speakers for this workshop. The event was conducted under two sessions where guest speakers could share their own experiences in the industry. Also, they discussed how theories of PR could be applied in PR practice by giving examples from the PR campaigns they have planned and implemented for different kinds of clients in each respective agency.
The undergraduates from all three years of PRMM of honors degree program levels participated in this workshop. Department Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe, Head of the Department, Senior Lecturer Dr. Achala Abeykoon, Subject Coordinator, and all the lecturers from the Department of Mass Communication attended this event.
It was a historical milestone for the Department of Mass Communication as it was the first time that academics of the Department, PR industry experts, and undergraduates of the PRMM degree program met to have a valuable discussion on the industry on one platform.
