The sixth phase of the marketing guest lecture series, centered on the subject of Marketing (MACO 33454), took place on Friday, April 5th, 2024, at 01:00 PM in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Mr. Amitha Amarasinghe, the CEO and Co-founder of APIDM, delivered an interesting lecture under the theme "Impact of AI in Marketing and Communications Industry," focusing on how Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing the marketing and communications landscape.
The guest lecture was organized by Hansika Sanduni, Dinusha Kumarasinghe, Thilakshani Gamage, Nimnadi Saubhagya, Nilukshi Kumari, Vindya Kalpani Rathnayaka, Thilakshi Indeewari, Ishara Wijerathna, Supuni Prarthana, Hiruni Kaveesha Lashani, and Amandi Herath.
The fifth phase of the marketing guest lecture series, centered on the subject of Marketing (MACO 33454) took place on April 4, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Auditorium of the Department of Mass Communication. Mr. Ajith Naragala, the Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board, spearheaded this guest lecture on the theme of Event Management.
Lecturer Ileka Ruwanpathirana, Assistant Lecturer Hansani Jayawickrama, and second-year Mass Communication (Hons) students participated in this enlightening session.
The lecture was organized by S. Apsara Dushanthi, Jayani Chanika, Kaveesha Gurusinghe, Nathasha Thilini, Udeshika Kaushani, Erangi Rajapaksha, Sasindu Mihiran, Nawodika Subhashini, Hishan Anuruddha Senavirathna, Sachini Gunawardhana, and Rasangi Umayangana.
2024 Luojia Global Summer School organized by Wuhan University was held from 23rd June to 26th July focusing the effective application of sustainable development goals. This international initiative brought together students from eight countries. Students from China, Sri Lanka, Laos, Fiji, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, United States of America and Ecuador came together and shared their own stories and struggles concerning SDG.
The course content was well planned with modern day SDG knowledge. The lecturers on different disciplines around the world shared their insight on mindful communication, storytelling and story selling and many more practical case studies. Field visits to conservation sites, urban greening factories and news agencies provided the students with balanced understanding on various aspects of the topic. And classroom discussions and presentations encouraged students to find solutions to common problems they face through international collaboration.
Cultural events planned by the university and students from different countries, created a platform for students to share and understand other cultures and to find their own identity. Cultural integration was a major focus in the course with many lectures focusing on better collaboration of government initiatives and cultural sensitive reporting.
Professor Ji Li from the Journalism and Communication Department of Wuhan University and Dr. Kalinga Senaviratne who was a major contributor in the program plan to set up a website for these students to continue reporting on their issues and measures taken for SDG in their countries. On 26th of July the program concluded successfully.
The Department of Mass Communication conducted a special guest lecture at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences on April 21, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. The lecture, delivered by Dr. Kalinga Senevirathne, centered on the topic of 'Geopolitics and the Media in Asia and the South Pacific,' offering significant insights to our postgraduate students.
The fourth session of marketing guest lecture series, focusing on the subject of Marketing (MACO 33454), was hosted by second-year Mass Communication (Hons) students on March 22, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the audio-visual studio of the Department of Mass Communication.
The topic was "Introduction to PR." Mrs. Amali Fernando, Public Relations and Influence Manager at Ogilvy Sri Lanka, served as the guest lecturer. She shared valuable insights about the Working World and its Role in Marketing.
Accompanying her were two of her coworkers, senior executives from Ogilvy Sri Lanka, Ms. Sandamali Wikramarachchi and Ms. Aqeelah Al Amari. The event also saw participation from Lecturer Ileka Ruwanpathirana, Lecturer Dasini Madurasinghe, and Assistant Lecturer Hansani Jayawickrama.

Dilrukshi, M.L.M.M.Priyarshani, K.M.D.S.Kahadawa, H.N.Jayawickrama, A.P.D.Yasintha, S.S.D. The scholarships were presented by the Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor, University of Kelaniya and Prof. M. M. Gunathilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Kelaniya, on December 10th, at the Board Room of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya.
The third phase of the marketing guest lecture series, focusing on the subject of Marketing (course code MACO 33454) and organized by the second-year Mass Communication (Hons) students, was held on Friday, March 15th, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the audio-visual studio of the Department of Mass Communication. Mr. Amila Yahalavela, the creative director at Shift Group, served as the guest lecturer.
An interesting lecture was delivered under the theme of exploring creative direction in marketing, with a focus on the creativity required for advertising. It proved to be very helpful in developing the creative thinking of the students.
